Week 3 (03/02/20 - 06/02/20)
This week, we are heading to Langkawias to conduct real-life research and collecting necessary data for our final project. For my group, we are going to gather the data regarding
- The legend of Mahsuri and it's socio-cultural effects on the community via Interviews Questions.
- Mass development in Langkawi and how it relates to the environment and tourism
Day 1 | 03/02/20

Fig 1.2 Fake burnt rice Field |
only at the end of day 2 when we visited the real burnt rice field and saw the burnt rice, we concluded that this field was fake.
Fig 1.3 Houses and Items in Mahsuri's Village/Tomb |
Inside Mahsuri's Village/Tomb we saw something interesting in the houses and noticed that all the houses were made out of wood and we also saw an enormous stone congkak artifact.

UNDERDEVELOPMENT
we saw a series of underdeveloped areas on the way back from Mahsuri's village even a project of restoring or construction that seems abandoned.
Day 2 | 04/02/20
the second day had come and Ceneang beach was first on our list of places to go on arrival the view of the beach was fantastic the sky very nice but too hot and we noticed that not a lot of tourists were here. Although we did have an interview opportunity here.

Not sure what
the construction is
for but this would affect the tourist who comes to enjoy the natural scenery
of the beach, only to be disturbed by noise pollution
caused by the construction
vehicles.

TRIP REFLECTION
Being able to
travel to Langkawi and carry out to carry out this project was a great experience for all for Me and John us as we got to work together and sharpen
both our Observational skills which was key and also think like a researcher
rather than a student.
Our topic was quite challenging and
interesting in the sense that not much research has gone into this so we both
are the first to do this and also
Discover things that no one knows about Langkawi things that you wouldn’t find
on the internet being able to immerse ourselves int the Culture and relate to
the locals.
I even had a
chance to sharpen my Malay speaking skill a bit as I had to intervene not as much
as john but a few which was exciting for me,
Through this the trip, we also managed to answer our problem questions and achieve the
objectives. And even
discovered new interesting things and opinions from the interview that amazed
us and flipped our view of Langkawi and Mahsuri’s Effects and how even the locals view her upside down
I really
Enjoyed working, and struggling to get data during this trip and thanks to
John’s Dad we couldn’t have gone through with our Planned Itinerary without his
he as he Drove us around and tipped us at places to take pictures and even went
to the extent to take pictures and videos for us, giving us wise suggestions
that we would have never thought of from an elderly point of view and it’s
beneficial as he has visited Langkawi before.
HERE ARE THE PRESENTATION SLIDES
Feedback
after the presentation, Mr.Charles and Mr.Asrizal commented saying that the data that we have collected is a lot and we have really gone through and understood our topic well and that they even learned things that they didn't know about Langkawi.
And that in terms of our preliminary ideas we were advised to go for the first one.
