INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 2
We were briefed about this project by the lecturer that we need to demonstrate a decisive moment in a tale provided to us, written by learners from another college (not design school). There are a couple of stories so most of us get to illustrate different stories. And the story I got was the Old folks home

 Here is the story.

STORY-SUMMARY:
Let me summarize it for you: There was an old man who was encountered by students of Taylors university at an old folks home and asked him a series of questions about his activities, the past and he discussed and reminisced about his past and was eager to tell them to take care of their parents before they pass away.
OR
It's about an elderly man staying in an old folk home, sharing life experiences with a group of Taylor's University youngsters to help shape the next generation to make people better. He discussed in the discussion sessions on how generation changes, food prices, and portions change, society, and so on. He was also open to the family issue, the divorce between him and his ex-wife sharing with the students what when wrong and advising them to care for their parents before they are gone.

MOOD-BOARDS

I went to start by looking at more examples of old men and some facial expressions and situations or scenarios relating to the story to get a grip on the style. Then find pictures/artworks inspiring my idea.
COLOUR BOARD

For my color board, I was inspired by movie posters and especially it being in black and white I wanted to capture a sense of age and nothing does that better than black and white. technically they aren't considered as colors.
SKETCHES

All the sketches were done digitally and here are the ones I did physically.

i didn't go for this because i wanted to go for a kind of movie feel, wanted my illustration to be like a poster or some sort.
PROCESS
I started withdrawing the beard in detail which took 1 hr to do I used white ink on a black background

And then i started on the Past where he remembered when his daughter told him to spend more time and i illustrated that into his face. i first made her white then i added yellow to show joy.

And then I slowly added tears, the tears signifying a part of the story when he had done his part in informing the student's od taking care of their parents, a mixture of joy and sadness.

i further made the tears trickle down

I was testing out colors here I tested out the color red but it didn't fit the theme I wanted and could easily be misinterpreted although I'll give it credit that it does look striking.

Then i tried yellow didn't like it...
FINAL OUTCOME

And finally Black and i loved it because i was staying true to the color board i made earlier and it did capture the feel i wanted, it made the details stand out.
PDF SUBMISSION

GIF SUBMISSION.
And lastly the gif i made the past self move in that way i look like his other eye is his past and that makes him cry with joy.

REFLECTION.
Overall i enjoyed this project,i was fun animating and drawing out the character, extracting and adding different parts of the story to come up with the final composition.
