Lecture 05: Understanding Letters/Letterforms
I came late so the explanation of the project 1 I was missed which I regret, I should be more disciplined in my actions and this isn't justifiable BE MORE FOCUSED, well I managed to get the info I needed but that was after making several mistakes.

INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1

Today we began our first project In In Design With a section of an article called: First Things First Manifesto 2000, we are expected to make an editorial spread. I had a vague understanding after reading this article they are trying to change the way designers emphasize certain things in the fields of adverts. And that they should direct their attention and make more use of their skills for useful and effective subjects, such as educational tools and cultural involvement.

FEEDBACK

Week 06:
5/10/2019 General Feedback- Update your blogs Mr. Vinod wasn't impressed with most of our blog format 80% to be exact, so we spent at least 2 hrs updating our blogs following the format given and we should take the E blog seriously and we should get it up to standards basically 4/10 is a fail we should at least aim for a minimum of 6/10 I finished updating my blog and continued the Project 1.

Specific Feedback: I showed Mr.vinod my project 1 and he commented on it saying "that I should follow the instructions given" my point size and font were wrong.

Type Expression Feedback: I showed Mr. Samshul my Angry type expression and he commented on it saying that it's ok, but that I didn't quite understand what they meant by adding spikes to the letter NGRY in my type expression.

Week 07:
5/17/2019 General Feedback: We were instructed to still work on our blogs concerning the Lettering of our Type expression and earlier exercise which was to label all our Name Lettering with the personality we trying to show or communicate in our blogs and also update and fine-tune our Blogs before the Next Meeting.

Specific Feedback: For the Specific Feedback concerning My Project 1 I showed Mr. Vinod and Mr. Samshul Concept and they said its good but the textbox wasn't well Aligned within the Box. and the type family needed to be changed that I pick one out of the ones given to us.

REFLECTION

Experience: week 5:
the ideation of project 1 it was very hard to come up with the right format to use at first I used the wrong one but I was later corrected by Mr. Vinod. Overall it was tasking and time consuming but it exposed me to idesign and how it works.

week 6:
I was really annoyed at my self for not being able to find the perfect layout and time was running out. But Mr. Vinod and Mr. Samshul helped me and provided me with useful feedback that made me reassess my layout.

week 7: I was done with my work and we needed to head on to project 2 by this week everyone was stressed out.

Observation:

Week 6: for was too disorganized I had a rough idea on what I wanted to do but I needed to be focused on one layout.

Week7:
everyone's work was coming together and I looked around to see what others had done. and getting feedback was important too.

Findings:

Week 5:
at first, I thought that Coming up with a layout would be easy but we have to take into consideration what type of message the work conveys.

Week 6:
Once I had my layout figured it was the details of making sure the text followed the guides on indesign and the spacing and all the intricate details which was hard.

Week 7:
This week it in finetuning all my errors looking at the feedback and following it making sure I don't stray off the instructions given.

Fig 7.2 Introduction

  • Typography Essentials is an effort to distill, organize and compartmentalize numerous complex problems concerning the successful and effective use of typography, but not to over-simplify them. It's for every medium designers in which type plays a major or minor role. A profound understanding of letterforms and knowledge of the effective use of letterforms can only be acquired with a constant assessment.
Fig 7.3 Emphasis on Size
  • It's not always better for Bigger but it gets more publicity. Size is a simple yet effective way to reinforce a letter from, especially in combination with a more prominent position. It can make a big difference even with a modest change in scale.
